Composite Tips

Nose Room
This is a good example of 'nose room', as there is space in front of the person, to show she may be having a conversation. None of her face is being cut off either.

Rule of Thirds
This is a good example of the 'rule of thirds' as the subject has been placed at one of the intersecting point, creating more energy in the frame. The eyes and mouth have been placed at the one of the intersects, which is what the 'rule of thirds' teaches.

Lead Room
This is a good example of lead room as there is space in front of the subject. We can see the subject is moving in that direction. The subject does not have to push the frame along.

Camera Techniques

Crane up, Look down
Here I have taken a picture of a boy playing cards from a overhead angle. The camera is looking down from a dramatic angle, which in this case allows the audience to see the actors cards. We can also see that a light is being shone onto the subject, as there are shadows.
To create this shot, the camera has to be raised about the subject, tilted down slightly.
I am quite pleased with the shot, however the only downside was that the photo came out a little dark.

Back to Front
Here is a picture of an person's head. In the background is a scene of a beach.
'Back to front' emphasizes depth. It also compares two separate but related scenes without moving the camera.
This shot has been taken as a close-up shot.
However I don't think this photo was able to achieve the 'back to front' camera shot because there is not much action in the background.

Evaluation of Film Poster

We chose to create a film poster on a children's super hero movie. In our poster we have an image of a little child flying through clouds. This is what makes our poster look realistic. He also is in a superman costume, so that the viewer is easily able to tell what the film relates to. The name of the film is called 'Superjunior'. We also added a logo from 'Warner Bros'.

To create the film poster we used a software called Adobe Photoshop. This enabled us to transform the original photo of the boy into a whole new image, using a variety of tools. Using the 'magic wand' we were able to delete the background. Other tools used were 'lens flare','clone stamp tool','radial blur','motion blur','colour range' and the 'pen tool'.

I am quite pleased with our work as I feel it looks like a real film poster. It is simple for the viewer to understand, and focus solely on the character. If we got another chance to recreate our poster, I would add some credits. We also could have created another image in the background, but due to our little experience in photoshop we were not able to do this. Our original image was also quite small, so when we came to cutting the boy out, the edges were quite rough. We were unsure on how to smoothen them out, and so we had to leave the image with rough edges.

'The Enemy of the State' Questions

Tension is created throughout the clip. The edit has been cut down into different screen shots, which keeps the audience captivated. It is also able to maintain the attention of the viewer. Tension is created as the edit is a build up to the storyline. The first shot introduces us to a 'telecommunication security act', whereas the last shot shows how they track down the technology.

This is a close-up shot at 1:24, from the Enemy of the State clip. It is showing a card being inserted into a device. This close-up has been used to show the audience how communication is being tracked.

This is a medium close-up shot at 0:27, from the Enemy of the State clip. It is showing a man talking. This was near the beginning of the clip, where he introduces us to the 'telecommunication security act'. This shot allows the viewer to focus solely on the person, and to what he is saying. The background has also been blurred, so that the audience does not get distracted by other things in the scene.

At 0.36 in the clip the news reporter is talking about how an act is going to be introduced that will enable the state to access people's personal details. At 0.40 we see Will Smith giving his opinion of the situation. He does not particularly mind whether his phone is being tracked or not, because he has nothing to hide. The wife then gives her side of the situation disagreeing with whole idea. These 16 seconds of the clip gives two opinions. It allows the audience to decide whose side they are on, and doing so also getting them involved.

The editing of this sequence fits in with the genre of the thriller, as the clips flow quite quickly, keeping the audience attentive and focused. All the screen shots are completely different. Each screen sequence is telling the same thing but in a different way and by different people, who the audience can relate to, from people in power to your ordinary lay person.

Analysing a Photo

This is a close-up shot of two Asian female teenagers.

The female of the left of the picture is wearing a cream coloured dress. She has glow bands on her arm, showing she is at some sort of party or night out. Her shoulder is casting a slight shadow on the person on the left. The girl on the right is wearing a cream dress with black coloured straps. She is wearing vibrant coloured bracelets and a ring, signifying that she may have an individual personality. Here nails are also painted which may show that she enjoys wearing colour.

The background is quite dark, with the odd couple of coloured spot lights in the corner. There are also people in the background. Majority of them look like teenage boys.

The actors expressions look cheerful and lively. They also look quite innocent. The two actors have their arm around each other, showing their friendship or closeness that they have. They are both looking directly at the camera.

The photo is in colour. This picture was taken with the flash on as the room was quite dark. This is evident as the light is reflecting on their faces. They stand out against the background.

Evaluation for Image Cropping

For this task we had to crop two sections of an image we were given using Photoshop, and discuss reasons why we had cropped that part of the picture, what the scene was trying to portray and target audience. Then using Microsoft Powerpoint, we had to make a presentation with our cropped images, and add a title and caption to them. The image we were given was a scene from 'The Bill', showing crime out of control.

The purpose of this task was to understand meanings that images can have behind them, and what they may be trying to convey to the audience.

This task taught me how to analyse images in more depth, as they can convey several ideas. I also learnt how to cut pictures in Photoshop, using the cropping tool.

If I was to improve my presentation, I would have written the caption in more detail, as it was quite brief. I could have also edited the image, by adding a border around it to make it stand out and look more effective.

Evaluation for Camerawork Movie

We were given the task of re-creating a section from a movie called 'The good, the bad and the ugly. We were put into groups of four. Three people had to act out the scene, while one person took shots. Once we had taken the shots, we uploaded the images, and made it into a video, adding titles and editing the lengths of the shots.

The purpose of this task was to become familiar with basic camera angles, such as 'close-ups','extreme closeups' and 'high angle long shots'.

From this task I was able to become familier with some camera angles, and was also introduced to a new programme, on which i learnt how to create a video, and edit it.

If I was to re-create the scene, I wouldn't take as many 'extreme close-ups' as I did. This is because many of our shots taken were identical, which would not keep the viewer captivated. We could have also added some music, to create suspense and to make the video more thrilling.
